The Black Stars of Africa too bright for The United States of America.

United States1:2Ghana
Richard Kingstone stood to the test and made sure that the fires from the US Marine Soldiers never hit the target-net. Then came the one sealing goal from Asamoah Gyan, beautifully taken to kill it for the Black Stars. US was perfect too and pressurized Ghana but managed a ref sympathy via a penalty to make their say. General game play was good with each team allowing the other to play clean. This makes it the third country in Africa to make it this far after Cameroon and Senegal in previous world cup tournaments. Our black stars are shining bright!!!

Ghana has done it for Africaaa!!

Africa's flag bearers-GHANA- beat United States of America in a very tense match to a 2-1 matching forward into the quarters to meet Uruguay!!! Kevin Prince Boateng netted first, then Donovan equalized after the second half from the spot and Asamoah Gyan sealed it for Africa firing the whole continent into the quarters.

Uruguay draws blood on the fighting Asian Tigers. Uruguay 2-1 North Korea

Uruguay2:1South Korea
Port Elizabeth was the stadium and Luis Suarez was the man. He kissed the Tigers' net twice at the 9' and the 80' minute to fire Uruguay into the quarters. North Korea put in their all, but only managed to slip in one goal in the 68' minute via the Bolton Wanderers striker Lee Chung Yong. The tigers of Asia, led by the tiger himself Park Ji Sung, bow out of this tourney a proud side, though they did not manage to go far. Uruguay awaits Ghana or USA in the quarters.

Let the action begin!!!

If you thought that what you saw in the group rounds was anything, then wait till the action begins today in the knock out. Players have learnt the Jabulani tricks, and you will be seeing more action as the tourney continues. Ghana-Africa's only flag bearer-is placed in a slightly better position of going far. bet if you like, but am seeing it in the semis facing Argentina-----

Last in; Chile and Spain!!

It's Brazil and Portugal!

Ivory Coast was the team for Africa, but fate worked against them!

Although they did not qualify for the next round of the FIFA 2010 world cup, our African team-the elephants-did their level best. In their opening match they drew with Portugal 0-0, then lost to Brazil 3-1 and lastly beat North Korea 3-0. They bowed out winners, and will hold their heads high when they fly back to Yamoussoukro. We are waving your flag

It's Japan and Netherland!!

Former world cup champions bow out!

Not only did they bow out to Ultimate underdogs, but they bow in such a shameful way. The former world champions won none of their FIFA 2010 world cup, drew two and lost the last one making them finish bottom in group F. I thought I told you, It's a historic world cup.

Stand Up for the Black Stars!!

With Nigeria, Algeria, Cameroon and South Africa eliminated and Cote D' Ivoire on the ropes, its Ghana who have stepped up to wave the African flag into the round of 16. Germany also qualified for the next round, after winning 1-0 over Ghana.

It's USA and England!

Lady Luck refuses to smile to Africa!

It's seems like the Lady Luck has totally ignored the advances made to her by the African boys. She smiled a little bit to the black stars and hope she still will in their next match. For South Africa, Cameroon, Nigeria and Ivory Coast, she ain't smiling at all as she sends three of them packing-Cameroon begun, then came Ivory coast who have a mission impossible ahead requiring 10 goals in one match, followed by Bafana Bafana who even after winning against the French men still never qualified into the next round. Now she smiled slightly on the Super Eagles, but realized it was a mistake and stopped, making the Oga brodas board the earliest Okada to Lagos. Two more(Algeria and Ghana) have the chance of trying to make Mama Africa proud, with big brother Ghana seeming the most likely, but if this Lady Luck doesn't smile back...

Spain prove it on 'underdogs' Spain 2-0 Honduras

Spain were footballically good, but they forgot that they had fans watching who needed some excitement. Honduras on the other hand were awful, no wonder they conceded the 2 goals. David Villa will be my man of the match, striking in twice at 17' and 51', although he missed the penalty, he did his best throughout the match. About the penalty, he sent the keeper the wrongest way possible but the ball slipped away a few inches from the goal,(blame it on the Jabulani) NOT BAD, that's why it did not hurt that much. Fernando and Spain at large had a couple of chances to score more goals, but they never took them seriously. Honduras did not impress that much, but they had a firmer defence that managed to hold the roaming Spaniards. This pushes Spain into a better position of qualifying for the next round, by beating Chile. The game however was clean, with less cards shown. Final Score Spain 2-0 Honduras.

Chile takes all: Chile 1-0 Switzerland

Chile thought they had taken the lead within 3 minutes of kickoff, but the Swiss thanked their gods when they saw the offside flag up high. This happened when Sanchez missiled home. The game was rather fast, but the finishing from both sides would be termed as wanting. The two teams headed into the halftime break still nil-nil. The match official was very generous, awarding 9 players with bright yellow cards with one red given to Valron. Then came the 75' minute, and Gonzalez drove the Jabulani into the Swiss backyard, giving Chile the lead. That was the only goal, although the Swiss almost equalized in the 90' minute. The results definately spell Vroooom for Chile and doom for Switzerland. Final score Chile 1-0 Switzerland.

Seventh heaven for Portugal; Portugal 7-0 North Korea

This is the day that North Korea will love to erase from their memories forever! The rain and then a sequence of goals flying into their net! First came Raul Meireles at the 28 minute, striking it in to give the Portuguese the lead, the North Koreans managed to hold on up to the haltime mark, not knowing what awaited the after that break. at the 53' minute, Portugal again launched an attack that led to a goal via Simao, making it 2-0. Hardly had the shock been absorbed than Hugo Almeida made it 3-0 at 54'. 60' minute came, and yet again a goal for portugal this time Tiago netted it in making it 4-0. Liedson made it 5-0 at 81' and thinking that it was over, finally Cristiano ended his goalless drought by kissing the net at 87'. Tiago showed no mercy for Korea, as he sealed it fully at 88', making it 7-0! what a game!! What a result!! I end my commentaries here.

Portugal moved up several gears in the second half and ended up toying with their opponents. Full value for their seven goals. But North Korea, though battered, should not be embarrassed - they were up against a good team at its best, and they never gave up the fight
(important to note-Portugal shots hit the bars at least two times)

Spain aim to bounce back

Having been upset 1-0 by Switzerland in their opener, favourites Spain face a must-win game against the minnows of Honduras, knowing that another shock defeat effectively ends their hopes of progressing.
The Spanish boast some of the world's best players, but their team unit failed to fire against the Swiss and there have been questions raised over the morale of the squad. WAGs, tactics and tiredness have all been blamed for Spain's demise, but they will have to dig deep to bounce back, and quickly, if they are to make an impact on the tournament.Standing in their way are the lowly Hondurans, who defended stoically but still lost to Chile 1-0, and if they were to pull off a draw, it would represent the greatest moment in their footballing history. Led by Tottenham's Wilson Palacios, there is a lack of quality through the side, but there is no substitute for team spirit and, with Spain rattled, anything can happen.(espn)

Winner takes all as Chile meets the Swiss

After two impressive 1-0 wins in their first games, Switzerland and Chile find themselves in the odd position of fighting it out for a place in the second round already. A win will virtually guarantee progress and both teams will be keen to avoid leaving it up to Spain to decide who makes it through.
Two more contrasting styles could not be found, given their opening games. The Swiss, defensive to the last and with only two meaningful attacking moves to their name, against one of the most impressive attacking forces seen at this year's World Cup.Their preparations, too, have contrasting fortunes as Swiss defender Philippe Senderos looks set to miss the rest of the tournament with an ankle injury, while Chile's leading striker Humberto Suazo will return after recovering from the hamstring strain that threatened his participation. Winner takes all.

Pressures high as Portugal meets North Korea

North Korea can take a lot of heart from their opening defeat against Brazil. They may have lost the game, but it took the five-time World Cup winners over an hour to break them down and they even managed to sneak a consolation goal to add weight to the claims that they'll be no pushovers in the Group of Death.
Korea's defensive wall largely held firm against Brazil, but Portugal should be an easier proposition as Carlos Queiroz's men have struggled to make an impact in the final third of late. A dull 0-0 draw against Ivory Coast was preceded by the same scoreline against Cape Verde Islands and they have not managed to win over their doubters yet.Of course, Portugal go into the game as favourites, but one feels that there is a possibility of an upset on the cards, given the recent form of the two sides. If Korea are to make an impact on the finals - more so than confusing stories over 'missing' players and interest in their fans' chants - then this may be the game in which to do it.(ESPN)

Drogba behind dismissed Anelka

Ivory Coast striker Didier Drogba has come out in support of his Chelsea team-mate Nicolas Anelka after he was kicked out of France's World Cup squad.
Nicolas Anelka, Didier Drogba
Didier Drogba has said he supports his Chelsea team-mate
Anelka was sent home after a verbal assault on France coach Raymond Domenech and will play no further part in the tournament, although Les Bleus have only a slim chance of getting beyond the group stage in any case after a 0-0 draw with Uruguay and a 2-0 defeat by Mexico.
Drogba, quoted on news24.com in South Africa, said: "He has been a team-mate for two and a half years. Yes, I support him. I wish him good luck - it's a difficult time for him. He is very strong mentally, he's a competitor. I was surprised he was kicked out of the team."
The France squad refused to train on Sunday in support of Anelka. They play their final Group A match against World Cup hosts South Africa in Bloemfontein on Tuesday.

Capello might leave, if England goes down..

The BBC is reporting that England coach Fabio Capello will resign if his team fail to make the second round of the World Cup.
Fabio Capello has plenty to ponder after drawing with Algeria
GettyImagesFabio Capello has plenty to ponder after drawing with Algeria
While publicly the FA is refusing to discuss the scenario of England not qualifying, it is believed that contingency plans are being formulated. Capello's contract was renegotiated three weeks ago and the FA removed a break clause from the four-year deal which would have minimised the compensation it needed to pay him were he to be sacked. However, on Sunday a source close to Capello told Soccernet: "Fabio will not resign. Never in his life has he walked away when the going gets tough. He suffered more and more pressure at Real Madrid, the supporters wanted him out, some of the board wanted him out, but he stayed on and you know what happened - he won the league." Adrian Bevington, managing director of Club England, told the BBC: "Fabio was given a contract until 2012 and nothing has changed in that respect. Our position was very clear when we dealt with this three or four weeks ago. Nothing has changed as far as we are concerned. All we are concentrating on is getting a win on Wednesday and trying to get through to the next round." Capello has two years of his $9 million-a-year contract remaining and the renegotiation removed a clause where there was a two-week window following the World Cup which allowed either party to walk away. However, the cash-strapped FA, which was heavily criticised for the situation it created which meant it had to pay Sven Goran Eriksson around $5 million when he left the post, is unlikely to be able to afford the $12 million it would cost to ditch Capello.(espn)

France goes into melt down

France's FIFA World Cup™ campaign continues to be troublesome after the French Football Federation (FFF) announced there would be an official investigation following a player boycott yesterday.
Less than 24 hours after Nicolas Anelka was sent home for refusing to apologise for his verbal attack on coach Raymond Domenech the rest of the squad walked out of training in protest. The squad claimed they were united in support of the excluded Chelsea forward, complaining the 31-year-old had been treated unfairly by officials.
However, their actions did not impress the FFF, who have promised a investigation into what has become known as 'l'affaire Anelka' once the team's FIFA World Cup is over.
"The French delegation and its president Jean-Pierre Escalettes noted with dismay the refusal of the French players to participate in training," said a federation statement. This action is an unacceptable consequence of the eviction of Nicolas Anelka which they feel is unjust.
"Contrary to what the players said, this sanction was taken following a long conversation with the person in the presence of the captain (Patrice Evra). The FFF, speaking through its president, apologised to the country for the unacceptable conduct of the players that are representing our country. A federal council shall be convened immediately on the completion of the French team's campaign to draw all the conclusions of the crisis that has been created."
A federal council shall be convened immediately on the completion of the French team's campaign.
A statement from the France Football Federation.
The walk-out was prompted by events on Saturday when Anelka was dismissed from the squad after he refused to say sorry for his outburst at Domenech. Anelka reportedly exploded in a foul-mouthed tirade after the coach criticised him for straying out of position during the goalless first half of their 2-0 Group A defeat to Mexico on Thursday.
Details of the exchange were then leaked to the media, leading Evra to claim there was a "traitor" within the camp. The players, already under pressure as a draw between Uruguay and Mexico on Tuesday will confirm France's elimination from the tournament irrespective of their result against hosts South Africa, issued their own statement yesterday.
"If we regret the incident that occurred at half-time of the match between France and Mexico we regret even more that an event which belongs within our group was made public," they said.
"For its part, the French Football Federation has at no time tried to protect the group. They made a decision without consulting all the players, only on the basis of the 'facts' reported by the press. Accordingly, and to mark their opposition to the highest level of French football, all players decided not to participate in the work-out. For our part, we have not forgotten our duties. We will do everything individually and also in a collective spirit to bring honour to France with a positive performance on Tuesday night."
However, the matter is far from closed as Domenech is likely to be bombarded with questions about the occurrences of the last few days at a scheduled press conference in Bloemfontein later today ahead of the match against South Africa.

Trouble at France- Anelka sent away

France's World Cup team refused to train on Sunday in protest of striker Nicolas Anelka's expulsion from the squad, prompted by a profanity-laced tirade against coach Raymond Domenech the day before.
he latest round of turbulence also led to the resignation of France team director Jean-Louis Valentin, who said he was fed up with the team.
"It's a scandal for the French, for the young people here. It's a scandal for the federation and the French team," Valentin said. "They don't want to train. It's unacceptable."
Before getting in a car and driving off, he added: "As for me, it's over. I'm leaving the federation. I'm sickened and disgusted."
Tensions boiled over after the team arrived at training and got off the bus to greet about 200 fans who had gathered there. Domenech, whose tactics and management skills have been questioned, stayed on the bus to talk to France captain Patrice Evra. (ESPN)

Elephants forced to dance to the Samba tune. Brazil 3-1 Ivory Coast.

The game kicked off smoothly, with both sides showing professionalism and integrity of football. Then came Fabulous Fabiano at the 25' minute, striking in clean to give the Samba kings the lead. He then appeared after the halftime break 51' and scored a 'dirty goal'-apparently, he handled the ball twice before striking it into the net. Clip replays showed this very clearly, and making matters worse the French ref had an interaction with Fabiano after he scored, in a conversation that seemed to tell that the ref saw it all but assumed. The third goal came from Elated Elano at 62'. Drogba did himself justice when he, at the 79'minute, caught the Brazilian defence square to find himself alone as he headed it in fantastically. Things turned ugly at the 82' minute when Kaka-who previously had earlier been yellow carded-sent off with a red, in what the ref saw as an aftermath of a foul on Keita.(clip showed Keita running into Kaka from behind, as the two contacted, Kaka pushed Keita backward on the stomach area, but Keita held his face in 'Pain' as he fell down. After that, The Elephants came close thrice but final score was Brazil 3-1 Ivory Coast. (also important to note, the ref denied the Ivorians a clear penalty). This makes the Rio kings, the second team into the knock outs after Argentina....

Paraguay increase chances. Para 2-0 Slvk

The game started at a rather low tempo, with both teams creating minimal scoring chances. Enrique Vela, though managed to score for Paraguay at the 27'. However, things never changed things as the teams went into halftime with Paraguay leading. The second half came and disappeared with less action-except for Rivaros' 84 minute goal which sealed the victory for Paraguay. Fulltime score Paraguay 2-0 Slovakia. This therefore makes Paraguay the group leaders for now as they await the game between Italy and New Zealand.

Azzuris held by The all whites: Italy 1-1 New Zealand

Incredible stuff shown throughout the match, with the Vuvuzelas blowing loud and the Jabulani ball confirming why its the official 2010 ball with massive redirections noted. The whites painted first, with the goal coming at the 7' minute via Shane Smeltz(Gold Coast United), but the Italianos replied at 29' minute-thanks to a penalty- with Vincenzo Laquinta(Juventus) scoring from the spot. Final score Italy 1-1 New Zealand. The Italians did there best, but they did not succeed to get the ball into the net.
