The African dream was just a mirage.
I don't know what to blog about anymore!!! The world cup come to Africa, but we watched it pass by. For the Ghana national team, this must be the world cup that they would love to forget and move on. Soccer City-Africa's largest football stadium-was the venue. It all kicked off well, with Uruguay being on the offensive sverally but Richard Kinstone rose to the occassion and what he does well, how commonly as the 'Kingstone Save'. Then Sulley Muntari netted in at exactly halftime, sending the whole continent into a frenzy. After the half time break, Forlan planted the equalizer at 55' bringing everthing level again. The game proceeded into extra time, and the magic seemed to have worked for Africa when at the 120 minute, a penalty was awarded to Ghana...the stadim also came down, then the ever confident Asamoah Gyan come to hit the nail on the Uruguay coffin, but the JABULI HIT THE CROSSBAR, a time when it was really supposed to go in and send Africa into her first semi final ever in the history history of world cup. It was demoralizing, and the crown just went shhhhhh for a couple of minutes. Then the worst part of it came to the penalties, OH my! Asamoah Gyan rose again, proving that he is a true Ghanian worry and netted it in perfectly, The African Prince netted the second and.......................to be continued

Spain inches closer as Portugal packs.
Spain 1-0 Portugal
Spain inch closer to placing their hands on the most prestigeous trophy in the world of football, the FIFA world cup trophy. The lone goal of the match came from 2010's usual Spain suspect-David Villa- who dropped it in after his first attempt was blocked by Portuguese goalkeeper. This happened at the 63' minute, giving the Spaniards the lead of 1-0. Fernando Torres, has improvement and seemed to have been getting his cards right but the Portuguese defence never let him pull the trigger, we expect more from him in the next match. On the other side, Portugal never used Cristiano Ronaldo fully, leaving him to be a ball-chaser and had limited access to the Jabulani. Portuguese looked vulnerable from the time go, but managed to hold on. The match official was fair, and allowed the men to play, but had it to his neck point at the 89' minute, when he flashed a red card on Ricardo Costa. This therefore inject Spain into the quarters, where they will meet a rather weaker side-Paraguay-giving an upper hand of progressing to the semis. But the question is, will they??? That's for Jabulani to decide and Zakumi to consent.
Penalties mark history for Paraguay.
Paraguay 5-3 Japan
For the first time in this summer's historic world cup, two teams battled it out into the penalties level. Japan and Paraguay, are the two teams. The game had it's up and downs but none struck the net in any of the stipulated normal 90 minutes. Then they went into extra time, but still the stalemate would not be blocked and the time for the penalties came. The man under the blue samurai's football radar right is their defender, Yashuto Endo (Gamba Osaka), who hit the crossbar int the third penalty shout out for Japan. Paraguay therefore cruise on into the quarters, awaiting a team that would win tonight's match between Portugal and Spain. Japan on the other side go home, but not as losers. This is because during their entire tournament tour, they represented Asian football well and to the fullest showing to the world how Asian footbal has grown with time. Paraguay won 5-3, marking a historic moment in their football calender as the date when they first reached the world quarters round.
Blatter hints adoption of goal line tech soon!
The referee at England's second-round match with Germany on Sunday missed a clear English goal that would have tied the score 2-2. Germany went on to win 4-1. Hours later, a referee awarded a goal to Argentina on a play in which goal-scorer Carlos Tevez was obviously offside. Argentina went on to beat Mexico 3-1.
“ Something has to be changed.
” -- FIFA president Sepp Blatter
Blatter, who attended both matches, said Tuesday that FIFA deplores "when you see the evidence of refereeing mistakes." It would be "a nonsense" not to consider changes, he said.
Blatter also said he had apologized to English and Mexican soccer officials. He said 'something' will be done after the world cup, I hope it's is adoption of goal line technology Sepp.
Japan smells history as they meet Paraguay
High hopes trounced pessimism as Japan's blue samurais meet on a round of 16 date with Paraguay's La Albirroja. History will be made as the two meet at Tshwane/Pretoria - Loftus Versfeld Stadium, because whatever the result, the winner will be matching into the quarters for the first time. Who will it be???
Neds sway Slovaks aside! NETH 2-1 SLVK
Netherlands and Slovakia met at Moses Stadium to battle it out for the third spot in the quater finals. You will not have to guess scored the first goal and who had helped in the whole process-Robben of course. Robben struck as usual from a long distance after a pass from Sneijder, killing it 1-0 at the 18' minute. Sneijder came close severally and the lucky star struck him in the 84' minute from a free-kick setpiece, firing home from 15 yards making it Netherland 2-0 Slovakia. The consolation goal for Slovakia, came in form of penalty which the notorious Vitteck converted beautifully at the 93' minute, and that was the last action of the match, NO CELEBRATIONS!
Slovakia will go home the proudest team of 2010, well besides those who will win the gold trophy, after masterminding the downfall of the former world champions-Italy. The match ended Netherland 2-1 Slovakia, with Neds awaiting their playmates of the quaters from tonights crash between Brazil and Chile.

1966's 'Ghost goal' haunts England
In 1966 world cup, England and Germany-then called West Germany-met in the finals at Wembley. Upto to fulltime, the score was 2-2 and the teams went into extra time. Then Germany netted in in the extra time, the ball went in and bounced back-the same way it happened to England in 2010 world cup. It's a case of technology and deja vu. Since 1966, this Germany goal-nick named the 'ghost goal'- has always been a debate topic when it comes to using goal line technology which FIFA president Sepp Blatter has been hesistant to adopt.
